January 2005
Top: The river just reached the edge of the parking lot and the south driveway. Ducks made themselves at home in the fields just south of the winery.
Middle: Madison's odd assortment of geese found the perfect resting spot on the gardens many mulch piles and statuary. The high ground was a welcome respite after playing in the river's rapidly flowing current.
Right: Reflection of January sunshine as it cast both shadow and sparkle through a fence near the edge of the property. (photos by Sayra Hoskins)
Friends and family arrived by the hundreds to help rescue the winery.
Elroy Szabo (left), stands thigh deep in water to show off his fancy wading
pants.
The sign reads-"We are open Sundays" and is sitting on a
table floating in the Ohio
River, who's murky waters still lingered in the
winery more than 8 days after it had
crested. Below, Kevin Shadday and Gerry
Chase row into the driveway. The dark
line on the pole shows the high water
mark from the day before.

March 9th, 1997 - Ohio River flood waters have yet to crest & will rise two feet before beginning a slow seven day drop.
Top Left: View of Lanthier Winery looking west on the north side of the property. Winery entrance is completely submerged. Only a few tall evergreens are visible in the north garden.
Bottom Left: View looking east, shows the garage almost entirely submerged except for it's roof. This picture also shows the river current that swept through the building and blew open doors and windows.
