Madison Indiana Artist Marsha Smith sprinkled the garden with year round color. Her works combine brilliant multi-colored glass, marbles, tiles, copper, bottles and aluminum on a variety of surfaces. Marsha's glass crafting brings bright color to table tops otherwise covered in mid winter snow and slush. Her "Lilac Blossoms" creation includes hand wrapped glass pieces hung in the north gardens lilac bushes
Madison Indiana is home to several outstanding art galleries, however the most unusual gallery is located within the magnificent French Country gardens at Lanthier Winery. Artist Eric Phagan's collage provides garden gallery guests an opportunity to explore and learn more about various styles of art. Phagan was the first artist to complete a painting in the challenging outdoor environment. Artists must deal with unusual "canvases" such as wood or brick walls, work with special outdoor paints and create on rough, uneven surfaces.
Intricate metal work and sculptures created by master metal artisan Brian Clark add interest to the garden year round. Careful use of scroll work in unusual combinations has made the gardens "plant hangers" huge works of art. The massive blooming metal works are the most popular "artwork" in the garden.
Artist Jon McAfee of Indianapolis Indiana begins work on a cooperative creation with noted artist Eric Phagan. The work entitled "Building Bridges" features three unique renditions of the Madison Ohio River Bridge. In individual works, Phagan utilized his talents with line while McAfee showcased his talent with vibrant color on his creation. The two then completed a joint work demonstrating how combined use of techniques gives an even more unique feel to a painting. The trio of paintings helps visitors understand how various artists view the same subject matter differently. The Garden of Art is a working, learning studio gallery that allows visitors and artists to learn more about techniques, styles and art in general.
The Garden of Art outdoor art gallery is open to the
public 11am to 5pm Wednesday- Sunday. Admission is free.
Visitors enjoy strolling the gallery, viewing the works and learning about
art in general from the interactive displays.Guests are asked to avoid
touching paintings and sculptures as these original works are one of a kind
creations and impossible to replace. For more information about Madison
