OUR FIRM

THE WINERY FAMILY

We work hard and play harder.
We laugh, cut up and sometimes get just a little loud.
We can be messy, but we will clean it up...eventually.

We are the Lanthier Winery Family

From the Friendly Fermenter and Director of Chaos to the 'we are very glad you're here' Volunteers, we have people in and out of the winery all helping to create the experience we truly hope you enjoy. Whether you are tasting in the cellar tasting room, or strolling in the garden, we all work for the same goal and that is to create -

"a far away feeling, close enough to taste."

Christopher’s dream to pursue his own business began with a simple thought inspired by visits to Napa Valley wine country in 1990. Following numerous 'wine trail' trips throughout the United States and other countries, he investigated the possibilities of establishing a winery in Historic Madison, Indiana and, years later, Lanthier Winery came to life. His meticulous attention to detail is what's created so many loved, award winning wines throughout the years.

Cellarmaster

Christopher’s dream to pursue his own business began with a simple thought inspired by visits to Napa Valley wine country in 1990. Following numerous “wine trail” trips, throughout the United States and other countries, he investigated the possibilities of establishing a winery in Historic Madison, Indiana.

He discovered an old stone building, hidden behind immense shrubs and debris. What followed was four years of restoration, renovation and rehabilitation to the Mill Street building and grounds. During those four years, the winery and surrounding properties were entirely stripped to make way for Lanthier’s vision: a winery that felt as if it belonged in the small villages of Europe, but had American appeal and comfort. Cellarmaster, Christopher Lanthier, premiered his handcrafted, award wining wines in September of 1994, when he celebrated the grand-opening of Madison’s oldest winery. The winery celebrates its anniversary during the annual Harvest Celebration Festival.

Mr. Lanthier has traveled the world, tasting wine, studying tourism and learning more about the art and science of wine making. He is a member of the Indiana Wine Grape Guild. He has acted as consultant and advisor to numerous individuals seeking to open new wineries in Indiana and throughout the Midwest. Lanthier credits his staff for the winery’s continued success and expansion and encourages anyone seeking a “far away feeling, close enough to taste” to visit his dream come true at Lanthier Winery in Historic Madison, Indiana.

WINERY FAMILY & VOLUNTEERS

We can't thank our families and friends enough for all the help and guidance they have graciously provided throughout the years. From helping us start out, getting the property cleaned up, and re-cleaning up during and after the floods, to assisting during events, racking and unracking wine, fixing things around the building, or just being there for a good laugh, our family and friends are truly what helps get us through and are what make Lanthier Winery "a far away feeling, close enough to taste." Many have spent countless hours to help make an event run smoothly, get wine bottled for the holidays, and load wine out of the building when the water begins its rise towards the winery in the springtime. No matter how big, or small, everyone that has helped Lanthier Winery throughout the years holds a special place in our hearts and will always be appreciated.

OUR BIGGEST THANKS TO YOU ALL!
